DAY 23.. EXPLORING BELO HORIZANTE

Day 23......sitrep

  'Economy option'

'Economy option'

Woke in exploring mode this morning and went for a look around Belo. The hotel I've booked could be described as 'the economy option' I suppose but it's clean and the food is spot on. It's also full of Argentinians who are all looking at me in that, smiling & nodding, your going home type way.

However, it is the truth and I have resisted all attempts by my big mouth to go off on its own accord and mention the Falklands or any other such stupid crap!.

Out into town and 'Belo' is a Lovely city, had a good wander around the city centre which is safe and as modern as any other city (why wouldnt it be??). The parks are really nice and I spent a few hours just chilling in the main one, catching some rays and chatting to anyone who did not run away when I spoke to them. Got speaking to some English guys who offered me tickets to the quarters, semis, and final (mine are now invalid as England fell at the first). They offered these at the generous cost off 5 K for the lot, or 1k, 2k & 3k respectively if bought individually. Took his number but don't think I can justify to myself spending that for a game that England are not in.

These guys also told me about what they do for work... they have invented an air rifle which has the same power as an assault rifle. The thing is, is that as it does not use powder explosives as its propellant so it falls outside the firearm licencing rules in many countries, including the U.S. This fact basically allows you to arm yourself to the teeth without anyone saying your illegal. Will be interesting to see how that develops!!!

Whilst chilling out I heard a load of birds squeaking as they flew over and expecting the normal flock you see in the UK (don't ask me why?),  but instead saw a load of green Parrots, in big wing formation, doing a low pass across the park, it looked great which for some stupid reason I was not expecting!

Moved to an area on the map the hotel guy had indicated was worth a visit and found a solo artist festival going on. Everything from pianists to painters, clowns to DJs, Mime artists to one unconscious England fan, who I assume was a piss artist. Great afternoon chilling and watching it all going on.

Walked back to hotel later but passed a band who were busking outside McDonald's. What was im sure the whole aim of the exercise was achieved, when I and many others, stopped to watch and bought a cheeky mcflurry as we did so.

Headed out that night to an area just past the solo festival, which again had been pointed out by the guy on reception and found a HUGE party going on. The whole district was packed, every street just rammed with people from side to side just drinking, eating and having a crack. Full of Argentineans, and a few Costaricans, who are on a major high and feel they can give England a 'right royal spanking'.... who am I to say any different?

Good night was had and I managed to avoid to much alcohol consumption this time.
