Woke this morning not clue what the day would hold in store, but with an educated guess that alcohol would play a pivotal role.
Sat down in the hotel Lobby, doing the day 18 sitrep and I saw a guy (Chris) in England shirt, went and chatted and said he was headed to the 'Official England fans' gig, same as I was.
"Happy days mate, wanna share a taxi" "oh no" says he "I know where it is, I'm walking"
"Ok" says I "are you sure, it seems some distance?".
"Not at all" says he "I know this town....."
Town should have alerted me!!
10 miles later (it felt like it), we eventually hail a cab and make it to the England gig at 'Bar Squat'.
As we approach the door the bouncer says "open at 2 o'clock guys" as he says that 'Tubes' from Soccer Saturday walks out of the door, to be immediately mugged by myself for a pic.
A couple of gallons of beer later, I have chatted with tubes, questioned Trevor brooking on England selection and forced Chris Camara to make a Video for my sister; left the squat bar (having cheered Spain's departure, but hoping we don't follow suit) and met a crazy jock who is following England "because he can."
I must say, day 1 at the World Cup has reminded me why I wanted to come to another one; it is the greatest party on the planet, it matters not where your from, you love football, you meet a fellow supporter from another country, you drink beer you laugh then repeat the process a thousand times.
I love it.
