Day 58....... Sitrep
No lie on this morning as up early ready to head into the Torres Del Paine national park. Collected by coach and in a change of tradition I was the last but 1 to be picked up....Yay!
However..... This does conversely mean that you do not get the pick of the seats (fussy sod), but it appears that the gods were smiling on me today, because the lack of available seats meant I ended up sat next to the beautiful Louisa, who is from Germany and studying tourism at uni.
This was all to my advantage as she was clued up on all of the places we were due to visit and not only that she also has eyes like a shite house rat and kept spotting hidden wildlife all over the place and pointing them out to the fat blind guy sat next to her..... nice one Louisa.
The national park is fantastic and the views are "stunning".... which turned into my word of the day and seemed to be repeated constantly on all of the videos I filmed. (See video!!)
Some of the lakes reflect the scenery in a way that create the most fantastic views and pictures (see pics). It's a weird situation which i considered similar to when your at a festival and close to the stage but still end up watching the big screen; the view of the mountains reflected in the lake seemed more mesmerizing than looking at the mountains themselves. ?
I was lucky enough to see Lamas and also a fair number of Condors, which are the national bird of Chile and also Bloody huge. It seems my observation skills have not improved at all, as despite being the size of a Lancaster Bomber perched on the ridge line, it still took Louisa to point them out before I saw them!!!
Finished the tour at lake Grey which feeds from Grey Glacier about 10-15 k further up the valley. At this time of year though there are a lot if icebergs which have broken off and floated into the lake, creating a truly spectacular sight.
A long drive back to Punta Natales after a truly memorable day which I thought could not be beaten for its magnificent scenery and pure breath taking beauty; However, as it turned out, day 59 gave it a real good run for its money.
