Day 57.. Sitrep
Had a lie in this morning and loved every minute of it. If I'm honest I could have stayed in bed for the whole day and just chilled out. BUT I'm in Patagonia in Southern Chile and to waste the day would by rude, but trust me I could have.
Sat with a local tour operator yesterday and sorted out some things to do over the next week. Had to amend my plans somewhat as the snow has pretty much closed Teirra Del Feugo off and if I managed to get to the southern point at all (Cape Horn), there is no promise I would get back for a while.
Instead I'm heading into the national park at 'Torres Del Paine', to what looks like a stunningly beautiful area. Then on a boat along the fjords (not sure of the local name) to a visit a Number of glaciers.
To that end I booked a coach from Punta Arenas to Punta Natales, at midday and went to buy some warmer clobber (Strangely enough the stuff I had been wearing on the Copacabana did not seem appropriate?).
I popped into the local the 'Marmot' shop wanting to try on a coat but the 2 sales reps in there basically stood RIGHT in front of me staring intently as I put it on, then after 10 seconds asked "do you want it, are you going to pay now?? "... "No thanks you crazy weirdos, I'm good thanks" Exit stage left.
3 hour coach ride through countryside which is stunning, with mountain ranges, glacial streams and lakes and rolling tundra all around; but with 2 ft of snow covering it, it is purely magical.
Arrived in Punta Natales, and out for a walk to the water front to see a huge flock of pink flamingos. I wasn't expecting that for some reason, thought they had more sense and preferred the heat?
Off into the national part tomorrow which looks even more stunning. Finished the day by booking my flight back to the UK for the 8th August from buenos aires, boooo :(
