Day 45......... Sitrep
Midnight found me sat in Rio International Airport having parted company with Parker Jon, who was on route to the UK via Timbuktu. Terminal 1 in Rio has to be the most uncomfortable airport lounge on planet earth, making it impossible to schlaff despite being truly knackered.
Flight delayed and now not leaving till 2:30am. I fell asleep as I sat down on the aircraft and woke briefly as the plane accelerated for take off, and then again as it subsequently landed. Buenos Aires Airport is also fitted with 'anti sleep seats' but had carpet and was warm so the floor was perfect for a few more hours kip. Big converted fan of the travel pillow that goes round your neck. Great bit of kit.
The flight to Santiago Chile was 2 hours and the views over the Andes were truly spectacular (see pics) but I did develope a mental picture of the film 'Alive' (about the rugby team who's plane crashed, so they basically ate each other!), which I think was in this neck of the woods somewhere.
Santiago is surrounded by the Andes and the approach to land is again stunning, flying between mountains. Watched the film 'Boys from Brazil' on my kindle during the flight thinking it was aptly named but, as yet, have not run into any cloned Hitlers!
My arrival in baggage reclaim revealed that my baggage hadn't..... and information that it was currently somewhere in South America.
Having demanded an English speaking guy from the missing baggage department, I was ready to give him both barrels and a 'full belt' on runaway gun. However in a great demonstration of "how to deal with the angry customer", I left baggage reclaim having invited him and his entire family to the UK, to stop in my house free of charge and not a care in the world that for the next month I will be travelling South America in the same cloths.
Arrived at an apartment I've rented for a few days, which is really nice, then I nipped for some food and walked straight into a restaurant playing the entire 'One Step Beyond' album by Madness., making me a very happy but slightly smelly man.
Currently lay in bed watching the final... C'mon the box heads!
