Hello, good evening and welcome.
As I type this I am on the 14th floor of the Union Jack Club, just outside Waterloo Station, in central London. I am at the very start of a little jaunt out to the far flung country of Japan, to basically have a bloody good time.
It is very VERY weird how the Union Jack club has featured in many of my journey’s, but there does seem to be somthing about this building which has a major role in my life; not only has it been the launch pad for many adventures, it is also the location where, in Circa May 1987, a very young and incredibly stupid D Mills Esq completed, what was up to that point in time, a very pressing issue in his life….i.e he got his end away for the first time…. that may explain why I keep coming back!
Lots has changed since I last blogged. My life has started a whole new chapter….most of the changes have been positive and liberating but some have been very sad, even if they were kind of inevitable. I have put pieces in place to allow me to keep travelling as much as possible, and visiting all of the locations I initially wanted to go as part of my trip, but I will now do them over the next period of my life intermixed with other funky stuff.
so today I woke, had my hair cut and beard trimmed (now a real traveller don’t you know, I even start with a beard this time!!), joined Uber (I’m so tech savvy), said good bye to my folks (my dad is doing great by the way), got in my Uber to Nuneaton and waited for the 13;36 to London Euston. On the platform there was a gaggle of train spotters who were having a heated discussion about how my train was running 9 minutes late..tut tut; please don’t ever become one of these people…choose life!
On arrival in london I had a quick coffee with a good friend, then headed to the UJC to check in. To keep myself entertained I went to see ‘Ad Astra’ at the IMAX just up the road… to give it my best film critic run down…its shite..its like a space Apocalypse Now… hate it when they try to get to clever…especially as I’m as thick as the proverbial!
So….bed shortly, then early brekkie, and Gatwick followed by the pleasures of China Eastern Airlines!!! Shanghai first then Tokyo.
My rough plans for this trip are:-
Meet my daughter, who is coming in from New Zealand. Not seen her for 2 years….very excited, miss her a great deal.
England Rugby, no tickets yet but live in hope.
Yonaguni Monument. Dive on this Megalith which is on a far flung island from Okinawa,,its cost more to get there, than to japan from london!!
More England, Meet mates, see japan, spend time with my little lady…
very VERY excited
