Dave Mills Continental Drift Days 25 - 26.......Sitrep.

Day 25.

Heavy snow just starting in Mannheim.

Heavy snow just starting in Mannheim.

My plan today was to get close to a place called ‘Felsenmeer’ which is a site that has some ancient stone workings, about which some people have suggested, possibly show signs of advanced machining. I wanted to see the site for myself so I could attempt to draw my own conclusions?

I knew the weather was going to be cold and even more so as I was going up into the hills, so trying to find somewhere local to stay was important. Since I have been on this trip I have joined ‘Couchsurfing’, which is a website that puts you in touch with like minded people who will let you have their couch for a night at no cost. It took a while to get set up as you have to ideally get verified and complete your profile. I had eventually got this sorted and had asked a couple of times to see if people would host me but with no success.

So...I am sat in Mannheim, it starts snowing heavily and its cold, I cant find a room in Bensheim (nearest place to Felsenmeer), on the internet and I’m wondering what to do.....should I stay or should i go??? Then something inside me just said ‘Move’, so I hit the road, eventually arriving in a snowy cold Bensheim about 3 in the afternoon. Just as I was thinking ‘it’s going to be a cold night in the tent ⛺️, ‘ping’ my phone beeps, “Stephen Has Accepted your Couchsurfing Request”. Oh mucho joy.

Now......since Ive been travelling, there have been a lot of situations already, where I have felt like there is some kind of guidance or something which has put me in the right place for good things to happen. A religious person would say its divine intervention, some would say its Fate, some Karma etc etc and a lot of squaddies out there would say I’m talking absolute shite. I have no idea what it is, but it honestly keeps happening and the ‘just move’ moment today lead to another one!

Stephen & his very cool apartment.

Stephen & his very cool apartment.

Stephen was a fantastic host. He has the coolest ‘Bloke’ apartment going and is obviously a very intelligent guy. It turns out that it was both of our ‘ first time’  hosting and being hosted through Couchsurfing as, although he has been a member for 3 years, he says no one comes to Bensheim, so he has not hosted anyone before and that it was a shock to him when my request pinged on his phone!.

We had some beers and chatted about every subject going, from politics to should ‘weed’ be made legal and then from why he thinks the Germans are loosing their efficiency to why England are so utterly crap at knockout football competitions.

It was interesting to hear his thoughts on Brexit (which mirrored what I thought should be the case with the Scottish if they had voted for independence), basically if we want out then go, don’t sit there saying ‘well yes but we want to keep that bit and can we still have those rights please’. The choice was made...live with it!

Stephen mate thank you so much for a fantastic night, your a top man and I wish you nothing but the best for the future.

Day 26.

Stephen Drove me to the Felsenmeer site (Geezer), then headed home. Ive had a superb day in the Hills wandering around the site and have seen some things which definitely raise questions as to how they would be possible with just ancient tools. There is definitely one large rock which has been cut with something that has left the surface as smooth as glass and a defined cut mark at the bottom. The explanations I saw in the ‘information centre’ there just don’t work for me and bare little resemblance to the hard evidence you see lying all over the hillside (I will write up about Felsenmere and put it onto my ‘Forgotten Past’ page.

Once I finish this blog I shall plan my next move, but it will be heading towards Bavaria way. Spring is just round the corner, I can feel it in my water...or that could be a Urinary infection due to not drinking enough water the past week?
